Participants of a twin-city project received celebratory awards from Coventry
A tiny but meaningful event held within the frame of the “Dialogue of the Volga” was an award-giving ceremony for the participants of the “Volgograd – Coventry Digital Tablecloth” project. They obtained one-of-a-kind pins and certificates from the “Volgograd – Coventry” Friendship Committee.
Let us be reminded that in 2021, the "Lidery Peremen" Non-Profit Organization led by Natalia Oreshkina won a Presidential Grant to fund the creation of the new Coventry Tablecloth – the legendary symbol of friendship between Volgograd and Coventry.
Back in 1943, when Coventry residents were raising funds to help the restoration of our hero-city after the Battle of Stalingrad, they embroidered this tablecloth with their names, and now the gift is carefully preserved in the "Stalingrad Battle" panorama museum.
The new tablecloth will not be an exact copy of the previous one: it will be adorned by the photos and drawings, which the project's participants had been collecting during the preceding six months, as well as with the QR-codes leading to the descriptions of the most iconic landmarks in Volgograd and Coventry. The ceremony celebrated those who made those drawings and photos – as well as the think tanks behind the project.
The person to award the certificates was the very one who had signed them – Abdul Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council.
