Bundestag visitors listened to the interviews with Volgograd veterans
On June 21, 2021, in the very heart of Berlin, a memorial event was held by the German parliamentary faction "DIE LINKE" and dedicated to the 80th anniversary since the day of memory and sorrow – the 22nd of June 1941.
For this project specifically, interviews were recorded with the Great Patriotic War veterans residing in Volgograd – Alexander Eriomin and Boris Scherbinin.
Among the musical numbers included in the event's program, there were a song "Whether the Russians Wish for a War" and an oratory "Deutsches Miserere", and extracts were read from the book "The Unwomanly Face of War: An Oral History of Women in World War II" by Svetlana Alexievich.
"Good relations and friendship with Russia and the other ex- republics of the USSR must be the goal of the German politics", remarked the event's organizers.
The DIE LINKE representatives also pointed out that the memorial meeting became the first public event to be held in Bundestag since the beginning of the year. The event was popular with attendants: the existing 150 seats were quickly taken, and the rest of spectators applauded the presenters while standing.
Let us be reminded that the first contacts between Volgograd and DIE LINKE date back to 2016, when the faction's Vice-Chair Mr. Wolfgang Gehrcke took part in the "Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the 21st Century" International Forum.
DIE LINKE speak against fascism and racism, and among their fundamental values they cite justice, internationalism and solidarity.
