“Russia and China: new trends and opportunities for the interaction between municipalities”

Let us talk about one of the 4 round tables that took place on October 30 at the International Forum of People's Diplomacy "Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the 21st Century". The topic of Russian-Chinese cooperation is of a special relevance for our city, which has three partners in China: Jilin, Quijing and Chengdu. Volgograd's twinning relations with the last one are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year.

The round table's moderator was Ms. Inna Dozortseva, Deputy Director of Krasnoyarsk Mayor's Office – Head of the department for external relations.

Words of greetings were said by the leaders of the round table's co-organizers: Union of Russian Cities

China People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries & China International Friendship Cities Association, and the Deputy Mayor of Volgograd Mr. Andrey Liakh.

The opening speech was made by Mr. Sergey Ovsiannikov – Second Secretary of the First Asian Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He described the current state of affairs in the Russian-Chinese relations and offered the participating cities to take part in several international projects.

After this, participating cities shared their best practices in the area of cooperation with Chinese or Russian partners – especially during the pandemic. Colorful and informative presentations were demonstrated by Chengdu, Jilin, Tyumen, Zibo, Weihai, Hulunbuir and Manzhouli (from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region).

Following the round table, several cities from among its participants expressed their interest in exchanging contacts and starting communication.
