Students of the International School for Young Historians exchanged their experience in the preservation of historical memory

The II International School for a Young Historian continued its work at Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University (VSSPU), organized with the support of the VSSPU Center for People's Diplomacy. The university's partners in the implementation of the project are Volgograd administration, the "Stalingrad Battle" panorama museum, the Volgograd regional branch of the Russian Historical Society and the Volgograd regional branch of the "Znaniye" Russian society.

On the School's first day, its participants attended a panel session on the historical significance of the Battle of Stalingrad and joined in the work of several discussion platforms.

The second day was filled with more practical exercises. Participants from the hosting university and the State Humanitarian and Technological University (GSTU) from the city of Orekhovo-Zuevo taught each other their working technics. Their seminars were dedicated to the most important part of every historical researcher's work: the analysis of sources and databases.

GSTU students held for their future colleagues a master class called "Letters Dating to the War Years" during which they read several letters written by soldiers on the frontline and offered several questions for their in-depth analysis. The attendants remarked that such work not only permits to collect factual information, but also provides for a deeper understand of the war and the time in which it occurred.

In turn, VSSPU students offered the guests to test their digital quest "Roads of the Stalingrad Victory" developed on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. The quest included 12 stages, during which the participants had to work with different types of historical sources, each with its own analysis-related peculiarities.

The most emotionally charged event for the guests and organizers was the candle-lit memory night "The fate of the family in the fate of the country." In an informal atmosphere, students shared the life stories of their loved ones who lived through the difficult war years. According to the students of GSTU, the studying family archives led them to discover new horizons of history immersion.
