Volgograd museums about our city’s international cooperation – watch it online!

May 18 is the day when museum professionals from all over the world celebrate their vocational holiday – International Museum Day. Which museums in our city would we recommend to those who are after the history of Volgograd's international cooperation?

"Stalingrad Battle" Panorama Museum

In Hall 8 of the Panorama Museum, you will find a glorious selection of the gifts presented to the hero-city by people and municipalities from all over the world. Among them, there are several iconic souvenirs from our sister and partner-cities:

- the famous tablecloth embroidered by the women of Coventry in 1943,

- the Coventry Cross of Nails, made on the ruins of St. Michael Cathedral (courtesy of the Volgograd diocese),

- the "Resistance" sculpture gifted to the veterans of Volgograd by a sculptor from Olevano-Romano;

- the gold necklace from the French city of Dijon;

- the Peace Bell from Hiroshima, which still rings annually on August 6 in memory of the victims of the US atomic bombing…

…and many others.

You can learn more about some of them from the joint project by the Panorama Museum and Volgograd Municipal TV – a series of videos under the topic "World's Gifts to Stalingrad":

Volgograd State Regional Museum of Local History

The history of our region would be incomplete without the history of its friendship! The Museum of Local History has a prominent collection of photos, documents, books, albums, souvenirs, commemorative medals, figurines and wood panels from 14 sister-cities, as well as the memorabilia awarded to Volgograd by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe within the frame of the Europe Prize competition.

The collection is continuously growing: last of April, the Vice-Rector of the Volgograd Serebryakov Conservatory Ms. Irina Kareva and the Vice-Rector of Volgograd State Medical University Ms. Natalia Alshuk donated to the Museum's funds several new exhibits from Ostrava, Ortona and Olevano Romano.

The Museum of Local History has already demonstrated these treasures at such exhibitions as "Volgograd – the Capital of People's Diplomacy" in 2015, "Tales and Legends of Japan" in 2017 and many others, whereas in 2020 it showcased them online at the lecture "Twinned in Their Hearts", which can be found at the following link:
