VSSPU launched the 1st International School for Young Historians

On May 11, the 1st International School for Young Historians opened at the platform of Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University. This year, its overall theme is "Youth in the Dialogue of Cultures and Civilizations".

The work of the International School enjoyed the support of the VSSPU People's Diplomacy Center established in December 2021 following the agreement with the university and Volgograd administration.

This year, the School has reached a new status: it became international. Its round tables and discussion platforms united international students who came to VSSPU and other Volgograd universities from China, Congo, Palestine, South Korea, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Costa Rica, Japan, Vietnam, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Morocco, as well as the students and professors from the neighboring city of Astrakhan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

The School's attendants were in for an extensive and eventful program. Their first day was dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War and the problems of preserving the memory about it among the younger generations.

Nikolai Bolotov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, delivered a lecture on the historical significance of the Battle of Stalingrad for the whole world.

His performance was followed by a lecture by the Candidate of Historical Sciences Ivan Gavrilyuk, who described the military decorations awarded to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and the Battle of Stalingrad, which reflected Russia' centuries-old struggle for independence.

After the lectures, the work continued on multiple thematic platforms. Associate Professor Margarita Belitskaya and a 4th year student Anastasia Tolmacheva organized for foreign students a lesson about "Modern festive culture of various ethnic groups in the Russian territory", and Associate Professor Vera Merkurieva delivered an extensive lecture on the "Foreign policy of Peter the Great".

On yet another platform, history enthusiasts and grad students continued by discussing the theoretical and practical problems of preserving the memory of the world wars fought in the 20th century. Here, students also presented the projects which they had been doing for a number of years, but which recently acquired new relevance and attracted new participants.
