Let us be reminded that the latest of them (so far) took place in November 2021 within the frame of the International Forum of People's Diplomacy "Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the XXI Century" and united representatives of the cities situated along two greatest rivers of the both countries – the Volga and the Mississippi.

As Bill Boerum pointed out, local governments, unlike federal level politicians are the ones that have the opportunity to preserve their cooperation links "with no regard to the political situation", especially if these links are based upon the many years of friendship between the citizens of their cities and regions.

The USA Sister Cities International (SCI) unites over 2 thousand cities from 146 countries, including 70 US cities that have twin-towns in Russia.

Although the SCI members are free to take their own decisions, we hope that many of them will still lend an ear to the words cited above.
