The Volgograd-Coventry Digital Tablecloth will be completed no matter what
According to the official web page of the Economic Development Committee of the Volgograd Region, the international situation will not interfere with the completion process of the project "Volgograd-Coventry Digital Tablecloth - 80 years of mutual support".
Let us be reminded that the project's outcome will be a virtual canvas reminiscent of the tablecloth that was sent to Stalingrad residents by the women of Coventry in 1943 – along with the money for purchasing medical equipment. The "better a small help than a lot of pity" motto embroidered on the original tablecloth has since served as inspiration for many public organizations.
Today, it remains as relevant as ever. The authors of the project, the "Lidery Peremen" autonomous non-profit organization, have been working on the tablecloth's new edition since July 1, 2021. During this time, they have organized competitions among the artists, photographers, people's diplomacy activists of Volgograd and Coventry, selected 96 children's drawings, 86 photographs and 85 paintings dedicated to peace and friendship, harmony and unity, as well as to the participating cities themselves.
By now, a digital model of the tablecloth is almost completed and has been pre-equipped with QR-codes, each of them leading to a story behind the photos and images depicted.
"Alas, it is now impossible to talk about physical journeys and offline meetings, but I am sure that our communication will leave a longstanding positive impact on the hearts of the people of our two countries. History cannot be undone," said Natalya Oreshkina, head of the "Lidery Peremen" organization.
