The international organization of winemaking has moved from Paris to Dijon
March 20 is the International Francophonie Day – a festival for all those who know, study, take interest in or just love the French language. We believe this to be the perfect day to share the good news that came from our French sister-city!
The International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) has made the decision to move its head office from Paris to Dijon. This OIV is an intergovernmental association responsible for the development of the quality and safety regulations for any production involving grapes, and also charged with protecting the wine industry from unfair competition.
Moreover, in May 2022, Dijon is planning to open an International Center for Wine and Gastronomy in the historic building of their former local hospital (built over 800 years ago). The Center will be a platform for various exhibitions, master classes and culinary schools – including fusion, experimental ones.
Here, let us be reminded that in 2010, the UNESCO included in the list of World Cultural Heritage not a single French dish, but the entire French cuisine. This means that every region and every city in France has one or another gastronomic treat to boast – which is yet another reason to congratulate Dijon on the fact that, even against such a rich French background, it has successfully stood out. After all, even d'Artagnan and the three musketeers used to favor Burgundian wine over any other – and the grapes for it are harvested in Dijon and its vineyards.
Our colleagues from the Dijon City Hall are absolutely positive that the new Center will secure the city's status as that of the capital of gastronomy – for centuries to come.
