Volgograd and Dijon Elderly People Clubs: the link between generations
On February 7 and 8, members of Volgograd Elderly People Club had an online meeting with their peers from Dijon. Translation for the event was done by senior students of the Foreign Languages Institute of Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University.
The idea to expand the cooperation between the Elderly People Club in Volgograd and its French sister-city was born at Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University in 2021, during the "Marathon on the Volga" summer school, which brought to Volgograd numerous young people from Dijon.
Among those who volunteered to help in the idea's implementation were the LSR21 and OPAD culture and leisure associations, as well as the Dijon-based "Bourgogne-Eurcasie" Friendship Association. The latter's members are well familiar to many schools, museums, universities and even caterers in our city: they have held open lessons, collected exhibitions of drawings and photographs about Volgograd, and even participated in a culinary competition.
During the videoconference, Volgograd Elderly People Club introduced themselves and their hobbies – arts and crafts, sports, "health groups". Their French interlocutors shared how creative and educational courses, health sections and exhibitions for the elderly are held with them.
As we remember, Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University and the University of Burgundy in Dijon have a long-standing partnership. Such online sessions – which will be held on a regular basis from now on – will be also quite useful for language practice!
