Chengdu and Volgograd: Nostalgia Tourist. Daci Temple
This September, Volgograd and Chengdu students have prepared a whole series of colorful and informative videos about the iconic statues, buildings and little-known sites of Volgograd and Chengdu. Today on air is Luo Dongrui from Middle School Yucai – branch of High School No. 7 Xuedao Campus of Chengdu. She will tell us about the ancient and beautiful Daci Temple.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, please.
– Hi, my name is Luo Dongrui. My parents thought hard about my name. They wanted me to bring good luck to the people around me. And I did. I'm 13 years old now. I am now studying at Yucai Middle School Attached to Chengdu No.7 High School, Xuedao Campus and I am in Grade 7.
I'm friendly, and I like to make friends with others. I also like to dance, but traveling is my favorite. Travel can broaden my horizons. When I am at home, I often help my mother do some housework and my mother said I am a good helper, too. That's me, a lively and cheerful girl who loves to work.
Why did you choose this particular spot for the video?
– If there is a place that can concentrate all the nature of Chengdu, as far as I can see, it must be Daci Temple. It's famous for two people, the messenger of cultural transmission- Xuanzang, and Song Dynasty calligrapher – Su Shi. Daci Temple is the place where Xuanzang, a famous Buddhist master, received his baptism for monkhood, and afterwards started his career for the promotion of Buddhism. Xuanzang had been to 110 countries in his entire life, and he was the messenger of cultural transmission, acting as the bridge of cultural communication among those countries.
If you found yourself in Volgograd for a whole day, what would you like to see and do?
– If I could spend a day in the city of Volgograd, I would go and have a lesson in Volgograd NO.3 Middle School, our friendly school, to experience the different atmosphere of it. I would like to visit the local chronicles museum to take a look at the history of the city. I would also want to look around in the Stalingrad Campaign Panorama Museum, to get a feeling of how the great battle went on. When the dusk comes, I would like to visit the tall statue of a woman rising high on the Mamayev Khanate, which symbolizes the Mother Country, and stand on the Mamayev Khanate overlooking the whole city!
