Volgograd and Chengdu: Nostalgia Tourist. Statue of Peter I

This September, Volgograd and Chengdu students have prepared a whole series of colorful and informative videos about the iconic and little-known statues, buildings and touristic sites of their cities. Today on air is Dmitry Ovechko, who knows Volgograd just as well as its Chinese sister-city.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, please.

My name is Dmitry Ovechko. I am 14 years old. I am a student of the class 8a, in the Gymnasium No.3 of the Central district of Volgograd. Most of all, I like travelling, meeting new people and exploring new cities.

Why did you choose this particular place for the video?

I chose the statue of Peter I, because I wanted to tell the residents of your city about a landmark which is located in the city center and yet remain little-known.

If you found yourself in Chengdu for a whole day, what would you like to see and do?

If I went to Chengdu for one day, I would, first and foremost, visit the Wuhouci Cathedral Complex dedicated to the period of the Three Kingdoms. My next step would be to go to the Science and Research Center for the Breeding and Protection of Giant Pandas. However, my biggest desire would be to see the biggest Buddha statue in the world – the one carved into a real life Lingyun Mountain. This statue is 71 m tall. It inspires a sense of awe with its tremendous size, its majestic air, and a face of absolute detachment. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dmitry's video is waiting for you on YouTube:
