Chronicles of the International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future 2021 – Memory Day

On August 7, the IYCPF 2021 had its third general meeting. Its agenda featured a presentation of a virtual reality project, reports of Peace Memorial Ceremonies and the start of a preparation for post-crossing event.

The day before that, IYCPF participants dedicated a day to the memory of all those who perished in military conflicts and to thinking about the value of peace we are enjoying now. Hiroshima, Volgograd, Bangkok, Muntinlupa and Tehran held Peace Memorial Ceremonies and various commemorative events. Chengdu students organized one themselves by visiting the Regional History Museum and a memorial sign dedicated to the cooperation between Hiroshima and Sichuan.

However, not only cities and public communities, but even business companies are trying to pass on the memory of the past in many ways – not limiting themselves to ceremonies. To convey the reality of the atomic bombing and the experiences of A-bomb survivors to future generations, Fujita Corporation started a virtual reality project – enriching Hiroshima tours by VR technologies allowing a total immersion in the city's history.

- Why do people hold peace ceremonies?

- How can we use this day's experience in making the final flash mob?

These were the questions offered for the participants' discussions.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 9.
