Young people from 6 countries come together to discuss peace on Volgograd platforms

Today, an International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future was launched in Volgograd, organized by the Russian and Japanese twin-towns Volgograd and Hiroshima.

Our city already hosted the event before, and this year's conference, too, is held on Volgograd's platform – even though virtually. The ideas and suggestions concerning what young people can do to preserve peace will be discussed by youngsters from 6 countries – Russia, Japan, China, Philippines, Thailand and Iran.

During his opening remarks, the Chair of Volgograd City Council Mr. Vladlen Kolesnikov noted the importance of young people's participation in the promotion of peace initiatives.

"Young people are the strong power which makes our planet move. These days we are all excited to watch the International Olympic games in Tokyo. And we are witnessing outstanding winnings and records achieved by young sportsmen! Both Volgograd and Hiroshima were completely ruined during the years of the Second World War. This is the reason why peaceful future – is not merely a slogan for us. It is the way we think," – he declared.

"One of the main tasks of the IYCPF is to inspire the young generation to build a peaceful future. The tragedies of Stalingrad and Hiroshima must never repeat," emphasized the Hiroshima Chair of the IYCPF Dr. Kouki Inai.

The International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future will continue over the two following weeks. Volgograd will be represented by the students of Volgograd State Medical University, Gymnasium No. 3 of the Central District and Gymnasium No. 5 of the Voroshilovsky District. This year, the IYCPF participants are in for online meetings with renowned experts, team discussions and independent work, which will help every one of them answer the most important question: what can I do to preserve and strengthen peace in the world?
