Volgograd through the eyes of Olga Lepekhina (VIM – RANEPA branch)

Prepare to meet the next participant of the Volgograd – Cologne joint video project "Nostalgia Tourist". Today on air is Olga Lepekhina, a second-year Economics student of the Volgograd Institute of Management – RANEPA branch.

Olga strives to be as versatile a person as possible, so she reads voraciously, does lots of sports, and actively takes part in volunteer work – her experience in the latter includes the "Volunteers of Victory" movement and participation in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Her video tour begins right in the Volgograd International Airport, which will make you feel exactly like a foreign tourist.

What reasoning would you use to persuade your foreign friends to visit Volgograd?

Olga Lepekhina: Volgograd is a city that leaves no one unperturbed. It is a city where the glory of the past meets the uniqueness of the present. It is the City upon the Volga, a city that is a word-of-mouth due to a whole variety of things: the Motherland Statue, the tallest Lenin monument, the only underground tram in Russia, the largest riverport in Europe, and, of course the length of the city itself.

Volgograd is all that.

If you had one day to yourself in a completely unknown city, where would you go or what would you do first?

Olga Lepekhina: I adore the architecture of different cities, and so, first of all, I would explore the local embankments, parks, city gardens, etc. And, of course, I am always in for some new knowledge, so I would love to go to a museum dedicated to the history of this city or the country as a whole, and to find a statue or a memorial complex that could help me learn more about the place I'm staying at.
