What to do in March and April? A few ideas from the US and Russian cities
On the 9th of March, yet another and already traditional monthly round table was held – dedicated to the Russia-US cooperation and organized by the Sister Cities International. Its participants were treated to two new presentations about the best collaboration practices, a report on the preparation of the Forum of University Presidents and several suggestions about new projects, among which there were the first steps towards the long-awaited "Great Rivers" Project.
The Chair of the Rotari Club Civic Organization in Ekaterinburg Ms. Elena Novomeyskaya delivered a presentation on how twin-cities had contributed to the establishment and expansion of the Rotari movement in the Russian region – a process in which she and her colleagues played a most active part.
A Moscow State University Professor Edward Lozansky, the founder and president of the American University in Moscow, suggested organizing a flash mob dedicated to the anniversary of the day when the US and Soviet Armies met on the Elba River in 1945: to plant a whole multitude of trees all around the world.
The recorded versions of the two presentations can be found online on the round table's YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/pOkr3p7hIV8
These were followed by a detailed account of the Forum of University Presidents first proceedings. The Chair of its working group from the US side, Mr. Dave Thomas, reported that 30 US universities had already joined the association and are ready to hold their first meeting already on March 18.
On the 25th of March, the round table participants will also hold an inaugural meeting of the "Great Rivers" project which unites the cities from the banks of the Volga and Mississippi Rivers – as well as the tributaries of them both. All its participants will be able to participate in the first joint projects dedicated to culture, tourism, and ecology, including those initiated by the City of Volgograd, and contribute to them with their own ideas.
Mr. Bill Boerum, who is leading the cooperation with the Russian cities within the Sister Cities International, is inviting whoever is interested to join both events – to do so, contact him at: https://sistercities.org/about-us
