Youngsters from 7 countries are working onthe plan of an international conference

On January 31, 2021, the International Youth Conference for Peace on the Future met for its concluding videoconference. For the first time in its history, the whole event was held completely online, in the so-called "COVID" format, and lasted six months rather than a couple of weeks.

Over 40 school and university students from seven countries (they represented Bangkok, Hiroshima, Hannover, Grigny, Volgograd, Chengdu, Muntinlupa, Tehran) had been gathering on an online platform almost every month since last July, and so managed to acquire quite aprominent experience of remote communication. On January 31 their job was to demonstrate how much they learned, in order to plan for new conference, scheduled for August 2021.

What did we like best about the usual IYCPFs? What do we remember best fromt he virtual one? What did we feel it kind of lacked? The answers to these three questions allowed the metting's participants to formulate a set of suggestions for the next event:

1) Make a list of online platforms for working together (making Power Points, exchanging files, distributing tasks, etc. like Jamboard, Menti.com) and actively use them, as suggested by Bangkok.
2) Dedicate more time to group discussions and interpersonal communication (so that by the end of the conference, each group would have realized its own little project), as requested by several participants at once.
3) Make a wider use of social networks, including the rapidly growing TickTock, us brought up by Volgograd: after all, it was a video flashmob with paper cranes that became the most poular event of the previous conference.
4) Return to cultural studies dedicated to the participating cities and coutries was called a desirable outcome by many attendants. To achieve this, they suggested either to make a series of video performances, organize master classes with traditional crafts or play Secret Sants by means of exchanging postcards.
5) Invent the tasks that would require going outside going outside. Missing the free motion, Hannover participants even suggested doing sports together and planting a tree for each 10 km they jog.

Although there are already several editions of the anti-COVID vaccine currently available in the world, none of the participants doubted that the IYCPF 2021 will againt be held in the online format. As a result, the presenters for the meeting spoke not only about their organizational plans but also on how to preserve peace in your family and your city during the pandemic.

If Volgograd – the organizer of the IYCPF 2021 – manages to successfully incorporate the suggestions voiced, the event promises to be interesting despite the long distances and closed borders.
