On July 30, we celebrate the International Day of Friendship, established by the UN General Assembly's resolution in 2011.
The resolution especially emphasized the importance of the new commemorative day for the strengthening of the friendly relations between different nations.
"Friendship among peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire efforts to secure peace and provide an opportunity to build bridges between societies that honor cultural diversity," the document says.
On this day, we would like to thank our friends and partners in Russia and abroad, those who have taken part in Volgograd's inter-municipal projects and those who are supporting them, and waiting to see more of them!
In honor of this day, we present to you the screen adaptation of one of the kindest and funniest books in existence: "Deniska's Stories" by Viktor Dragunsky – which now, after the Soviet Union is no more, is also hugely informative in regard to what was life actually like at that time.
Featuring a whole number of adventured from the life of a preschooler, and later a primary school student, Denis Korablev, the book and movie alike introduce us to Moscow in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Problems at school, a stolen bicycle, and, in the end, a real tragedy – this is the variety of the events our protagonist will overcome thanks to the kindness and friendship of the people around him.
