History

Twin-cities

Situated 310 km away from Paris, Dijon is one of the most beautiful and gastronomically famous cities in France.

It was here that people invented the well-known recipe of mustard made with a mixture of differently colored seeds, and created the Kir Royal cocktail – named after the Canon Félix Kir, a brave and inspirational hero of the French Resistance. It was his active participation – and the support of the United towns Organization (Fédération mondiale des villes jumelées) that resulted in the establishment of the friendly relations between Stalingrad and Dijon in 1959.

The capital of the historic region of Burgundy, Dijon reached its prime in the era of generous and art-loving dukes, the most famous heritage of which is the impressive palace currently turned into a splendid art gallery.

Volgograd and Dijon are cooperating in various fields, including with the active participation of the “Bourgogne – Eurcasie” French public association.
