History

Twin-cities

Situated 180 km away from Belgrade, Kruševac is notable for its quaint atmosphere and medieval architecture, which serves as a reminder that in the 14th century this small city used to be the Serbian capital.

During World War 2, Kruševac was one of the country’s most important centers of resistance and partisan movement, and its citizens made an utmost sacrifice for the freedom of Serbia and Europe. 1642 partisans from Kruševac and its suburbs were shot by the Nazi invaders. On the place of their death, Mountain Bagdala, there is currently a memorial complex called “Slobodište” (“Liberation”).

Volgograd and Kruševac are both members of the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities, and are taking an active part in all its initiatives. The friendship agreement between them was signed in 1999.
