Twin-cities
Volgograd and Cologne from the west of Germany signed their agreement on cooperation in 1988. In Germany, municipalities connected by friendly relations are called “partner-cities” instead of “twins”.
Volgograd and Cologne cooperate in various spheres. Their schools and universities are organizing exchange programs, studying Russian and German languages, history and culture.
Active participants of the relations between the two cities are the “Volgograd – Cologne” and “Cologne – Volgograd” Friendship Societies, who are organizing and promoting exhibitions, international events and round tables.
For several years already, Volgograd sportsmen have been taking part in Cologne’s autumn marathon, the finishing point of which lies in front of the famous Gothic Cathedral ranked third in the world list of the tallest churches.
