Moscow is a city with a federal status located in the Central Russia and the capital of the Russian Federation.

The first mention of Moscow is found in the historic documents of 1147. In the XIII – XV centuries, Moscow became a center around which Russian provinces united into a single coherent state, and in the end of XV – XVII centuries served as the capital of Muscovy. Under the Russian Empire, Moscow was the second most important city, and returned its capital status in 1918.

For the courage, resilience and heroism demonstrated by the city’s defenders during the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945, Moscow was officially declared a “City of Military Glory”.

Today’s Moscow is the largest metropolitan city in Russia.

The partnership between Volgograd and Moscow was officially established in 2000 with the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation.

There is a street in Volgograd called Moscowskaya (in the Dzerzhinsky district).
