Tskhinvali (Republic of South Ossetia)

2009 - the signing of the Cooperation Agreement.

Tskhinvali is the main cultural, economic and industrial city in the Republic of South Ossetia.

Just like Volgograd, Tskhinvali used to bear the name of Joseph Stalin: about 30 years the city was known as “Stalinir”, and this name is still used during the celebrations and the other events connected with World War 2.

The twinning link between Volgograd and Tskhinvali was established in 2009.

Interestingly, the relations of intercity cooperation are also connecting Tskhinvali with Sukhumi and Tiraspol – in other words, all four our cities are twinned to each other.
