Sukhumi (Republic of Abkhazia)

2007 - the signing of the Cooperation Agreement.

Fascinatingly ancient and tropically beautiful, Sukhumi is the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia.

In the 1990s, this city found itself in the center of the 13-months long armed conflict between Georgia and Abkhazia.

The twinning link between Volgograd and Sukhumi was established in 2007. Since then, Volgograd athletes have been recurring participants of the International Volleyball Tournament held in the Abkhazian capital.

Interestingly, the relations of intercity cooperation are also connecting Sukhumi with Tskhinvali and Tiraspol – in other words, all four our cities are twinned to each other.
