Dialogue on the Volga 2021: "Cities for Peace and Mutual Understanding"

On October 31, the Forum’s platform hosted 2 panel discussions. The first of them, “Cities for Peace and Mutual Understanding” was organized with the support of the “Mayors for Peace” International Organization.


Moderator's duties were carried out by the Chair of Volgograd City Council Mr. Vladlen Kolesnikov, and the greeting remarks were recorded by Mr. Kazumi Matsui – President of the "Mayor for Peace" International Organization and the Mayor of Hiroshima.

Among the panelists, there were Mr. Takashi Koizumi – Secretary General of Mayors for Peace (Hiroshima, Japan), leaders and international officers of city administrations representing, Volgograd (Russia), Granollers (Spain), Tehran (Iran), Hannover (Germany), Muntinlupa (Philippines) и Bangkok (Thailand).

These were the cities acting as the MfP Vice Presidents and Lead Cities in their respective countries.

The participants discussed
1) "Mayors for Peace" initiatives
- What role does Mayors for Peace play in helping cities promote peace and mutual understanding?

- What activities are taken by each city as a member city of Mayors for Peace?
- What role do you think Mayors for Peace plays in helping achieve the UN SDGs?

2) Solidarity of cities amid the pandemic
- How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted various activities by each member city?

- What initiatives has each city taken in solidarity with citizens to tackle the challenges posed by the pandemic?


The event was concluded by Secretary Koizumi's thoughtful and wholesome resume about what cities can do to promote peace and mutual understanding amid the global crisis.
