Intercity cooperation perspectives have been discussed in Volgograd
On November 01, 2022, within the frame of the International forum of People's Diplomacy "Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the XXI Century", the round table "International cooperation perspectives in the Eurasian space" was held in Volgograd, co-organized by Volgograd administration and the International Association "Eurasia Regional Section of the World Organization "United Cities and Local Governments".
Within the frame of this round table, the experts discussed the current key priority areas of intermunicipal cooperation in the Eurasian region; establishment and development of the twinning and partnership links between Eurasian cities; experience of international cooperation between cities in the attainment of sustainable development.
For example, Evgheny Demin – Deputy Head of People's Diplomacy Directorate at Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) – pointed out that in the light of today's international agenda, the development of partnership with the CIS, SCO and BRICS countries is becoming especially important.
The round table's experts described the best cooperation practices of their cities. Six of them represented Russia: Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Volgograd.
Osh (Kyrgyzstan) and Vitebsk (Belarus) outlined their cities' strong point and previous experience. Xi'an and Chengdu (China) explained how their cities built on their international gravitas by actively participating in key international initiatives, such as the "One Road – One Belt", and China-Europe Railway Express.
In his closing speech, the round table's moderator Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General, International Association "Eurasia Regional Section of the World Organization "United Cities and Local Governments", confirmed that Eurasian cities are continuously expanding their cooperation. He also remarked that, despite the global changes, the cities are still developing their international exchanges, to be more efficient in resolving their daily issues for the benefit and well-being of their residents.
