“Russia and Germany: the present and the future of bilateral partnership”

Yet another round table within the frame of "Dialogue on the Volga" brought together Volgograd's numerous German partners: politicians, political scientists, public associations officers, and, of course, representatives of both partner-cities: Cologne and Chemnitz.

Co-organized by the German-Russian Forum, the round table was moderated by the press-secretary of DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the German Bundestag Mr. Michael Schlick.

Opening remarks and works of greeting were prepared by the Chair of the Board of the German-Russian Forum Mr. Matthias Platzeck and the Chair of the Board of the Volgograd regional branch of the "Russian Peace Foundation" Mr. Yury Starovatykh, who had been the one to sign cooperation agreement with both of Volgograd's German partner-cities.

The round table's first part («Russia and Germane: perspectives of the bilateral relations) was built as a discussion based on two opening reports, one – by the Chair of the "Russia and Germany" Society, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Mr. Vladimir Grinin, the other – by the Academic Director of German-Russian Forum Mr. Alexander Rahr.

During the second part ("Intermunicipal cooperation between the RF and the FRG"), the round table experts exchanged their best practices and examples of the projects previously realized by the German-Russian Forum, the "West-East" Federal Union of German societies, the Foundation "East-West Encounters", the Russian branch of Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, as well as Kaluga, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Chemnitz and Volgograd.

Concluding the meeting, its participants voiced their suggestion to establish a Russian-German Public Association Council to preserve their contacts and enthusiasm even through the most difficult times.
