A “Red” Tourist’s Guide to Volgograd – Central district of Volgograd

This video was brought to you by students of Gymnasium No.3 in the Central District of Volgograd. Please, watch it at the following link! Some of its authors – Arina Savostina (16), Polina Samareva (16), Ekaterina Sharapova (16), Viktoria Mantsurova (17), and Rodion Popov (16) – have even agreed to answer a few of our questions about themselves and the topic of their project – the wonders of the district where their school is located.

Why did you choose these sites exactly for your video?

Arina Savostina: These are the most popular historical sites in Volgograd.

Polina Samareva: The Central District has many sites that reflect the history of my country.

Ekaterina Sharapova: This location shows the heroism of my city and reveals a glimpse of its history.

Viktoria Mantsurova: The history of our city is very interesting, and I chose Alexander of the Neva's Cathedral because, for me, it is a symbol of the city. The church is very beautiful and majestic, and what's striking is that it was rebuilt to be an exact replica of the old cathedral.

Rodion Popov: I felt that this location – Mira Street – is imbued with the most historical spirit.

Gymnasium No.3 has a partnership agreement with a school in Chengdu, and the video's makers know the history of not only their city but also its Chinese sisters. They even imagined what they would do if they could spend a whole day in Chengdu.

Arina Savostina: If I were there, I'd love to explore the historical sites, try traditional food, and interact with the locals.

Polina Samareva: I know there's a panda breeding center in Chengdu. I'd really love to see them. I'd also love to see some ancient buildings (temples, monasteries).

Ekaterina Sharapova: If I had the chance to spend a day in Chengdu, I'd choose that city. I think it has a very cozy and peaceful atmosphere, and Chengdu is also famous for its culture and delicious cuisine. Most of all, I'd love to visit the giant panda research center and see them in person. I think that would be the most interesting and memorable part of the trip. I'd also love to stroll along the ancient Jinli Street, try traditional Sichuan dishes, and visit an authentic Chinese teahouse. I'd be interested to see how the locals spend time in the parks, practice tai chi, and relax with friends. This will allow you to experience the city's true atmosphere and gain a better understanding of Chinese culture.

Viktoria Mantsurova and Rodion Popov: I'm just starting to discover the sister-cities, and I hope to learn more about them through this project.

What are our participants' expectations for the project? We asked them before, and now, as we wait for our international friends to submit their own videos, we hope each of them will come true.

Arina Savostina: I want to learn more about Chinese culture.

Polina Samareva: I'd like to learn more about China and share the sights of my city.

Ekaterina Sharapova: I'd like to make new acquaintances in China.

Viktoria Mantsurova: I hope to see a good video from which I can learn more about the main historic sites of the given city.

Your video was not just good, but extremely informative! Thank you very much for making it!
